elpo,

I found a couple sailing simulators.

Here's a free download called Virtual Skipper:
zdnet.com

I tried it.
Not bad.
I could almost smell the waves...
I used the 3D setting and the graphics were pretty good except you see the boat from a camera instead of feeling like you are on the boat... (But perhaps I didn't have it set up correctly...)
It doesn't require much PC power. 486 and 8 megs ram if I remember correctly, but I looked at a few and may have that info confused...

The first time I tried it didn't work, but now it works fine...

Then I saw one on Amazon that is fairly expensive but I could not get a game review on it.
I searched several places but didn't want to spend $60-$70 on it without getting a few opinions...
Let me know if you ever heard of it before? or if you find a site with a review of the game.
It's called:
SAIL 2000 Yacht Racing Simulator
amazon.com

I know it's not like the real thing but may help with the cabin fever...
(We are expecting more snow today... argh!)

It looks like both games allow you to race online against your friends.
Maybe you can teach us NNBMers a trick or two.
No joystick or special hardware required. Just arrow keys, space bar and a few others.

Let me know if you try the shareware one.

If Dalin or anyone ever heard of the Sail 2000 or another sailing sim, let me know.

Here is what Amazon had for a review:

Editorial Reviews
Book Description
SAIL 2000 is a CD-ROM sailing simulator for Windows PCs. It depicts the highly exciting and
challenging strategic and tactical sport of yacht match racing with a quality that has not been
equaled. It does this using sophisticated multimedia sound and graphics and an incredibly precise
dynamic sailing model.

When a yacht in SAIL 2000 changes speed this is due entirely to complex aero and hydrodynamic
calculations of the wind forces on the sails and the water forces on the hull. The yachts modeled are
based on the IACC class and are both fast and extremely responsive sailboats.

SAIL 2000 gives you great flexibility in setting up the type of course you wish to sail and the type of
wind conditions you will encounter. It even lets you choose the quality of the on-the-water judging!
The simulator uses actual ISAF racing rules to determine rights of way and informs the player what
rule number is in effect at any time.

You can race by yourself against the artificial intelligence controlled computer opponent or against a
friend on the same computer using the new split-screen interface. For the ultimate challenge visit the
Internet Lobby where you can race SAIL 2000 human opponents from around the world.

SAIL 2000 includes a comprehensive manual that not only describes the functioning of the simulator
but also gives a very solid introduction to both sailing theory and racing tactics and strategies.
