Out of Wonderland: Storage struggles with reality
by Ashok Kumar
Managing director
U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray

Storage has been seen as a safe haven for the market
by many investors of late. Companies such as Network
Appliance showed resilience to the tech slowdown
until late last year. Since November, however,
Network Appliance has lost more than 50 percent of its
value after reporting disappointing earnings.

In his perspective, Kumar takes a look at the
sobering story of Network Appliance and others in
the network attached storage (NAS) market. The
painful truth is that many companies are
conservative when it comes to investment in new
storage technologies and implementation costs, and
spending in the sector may decrease because of it.
