Early weakness in QCOM shares on news that Kyocera Corp lowered handset guidance to 450 mln from 500 mln. Kyocera recently purchased QCOM's handset unit.

It's tough to sell phones when you have released only one phone in the last year. KYO has failed miserably thus far in exploiting Q's handset business. They were 3 months late with the 2035....are about 6 months late with the 3035 (you can only buy it at US West)....and 2 months late with the 6035. The branding campaign that Qualcomm began in late '99 has disappeared. The rationale that a sale to Kyocera would help spread CDMA2000 disappeared last April when Qualcomm had to threaten to bid for a license in Japan in order to get DDI to go with 1x in the new spectrum.

Can anyone come up with any positives associated with the sale to Kyocera? Besides the obvious fact that Qualcomm no longer owns the business.
