I agree that lawyers -- like a lot of other folks -- have trouble reacting to changes in the world. But I'm not sure it's the Internet that the defense attorneys cannot accept. Rather I think its securities litigation reform that worries them. If it works, their role as advisers will be diminished. So they would like companies to believe that securities litigation reform is not working and that we should continue business as usual.

I believe that gradually companies will discover that they can be more open with individual investors without getting sued. When they realize this, they won't be so easily intimidated by their defense lawyers.
