Hi Michael,

I wish I had seen this debacle last May the way you obviously did.

BTW: I've heard that the prices for the 'failed dot-coms' inventory are not that much less than the new boxes from Sun. Also heard that Sun doesn't support 2nd hand resales..... So you'd have to buy a separate support contract for your used Ultra II server. Not sure why ML is so concerned about this. There's no doubt though that these massive failures have hurt Sun's sales.

Except for increased energy costs, which are inflationary, I believe this whole "downturn" is artificial and was instigated by the Fed. It was last May, I believe when McNealy said to AG "Don't kill the goose that laid the golden egg". He turned out to be right. I'm not convinced that the Fed understands the new economy.

They failed to see that all the great advances in productivity and efficiency would cause a more sudden & more rapid contraction in orders all the way down the line. That is what happened in December. These guys, with their sophisticated econometrics and years of experience are supposed to know and understand things like that. They didn't see it coming. Now we have a negative psychology driving the markets. This is something we don't need....
