Re Fuel savings with a SOFC APU from numbers published by Delphi/BMW
Need 1.5 Litres per KW generated per 100 km driven from a regular alternator.
Assume vehicle needs 3 KW for regular operation, heating or air conditioning, electric water pump etc

Need 1.5 * 3 * 200 litres per year assuming you drive 20,000 kms/year. This is 900 litres /year.

SOFC APU saves 46% . 46% * 900 = 414 litres/year.

In Europe gasoline costs about $2Cdn or more a litre. Fuel savings are $818/cdn per year.

Environmental savings of reduced emissions as well.

I would cheerfully pay $1,500 Cdn for such a device to give me a payback in less than 2 years.

What do you think?
