OT, Re: Germans in Asia
PW,
I was wrong with the name, it was Catherine II, who followed Elizabeth, who and her husband were Germans. Having a weak husband, threat to her life, she became one of the most loved Empress by the Russians.
The dividing line between Europe and Asia is the crest of the Ural Mountains and the Kaspian Sea, therefore Kazakstan, which is the first state to the east, is in Western Asia, the others are further to the east and south, Tadjikistan & Turkistan are bordering on to China to the east.
Not that I want to go there, but the famous Silk Route which Marco Polo took to China, led through here. At that time the riches from trade were legendary, especially the Golden city of Samarkand. Of course, all is in rubbles now, neglect and stripping anything of value over centuries, done its job.
It is a small return for all the valuable info I got from the tread, there is a great group of people here, willing to help anyone, you among them, are one of the best.
