As for college choices why is it so inconceivable that your own and your parents' combined funding capacity may not add up to Yale, et al., even when you possess the requisite test scores and GPA? That's life. Happened to me when I was admitted to the University of Chicago Law School and couldn't attend because it cost approximately 70% more than other local Chicago JD programs.

There is no guarantee in the United States that one will be given the government funded resources to pursue your own definition of happiness or a fulfilling career with a prestigious degree. All we get is the opportunity to compete in a meritocracy. Or at least we may restore that level playing field if we can just manage to abandon the admission ratios imposed under the guise of affirmative action.
