Re: Wait and see

Not much else for you to say, is there?

Intel has a desperate near term strategy: they are attempting a simultaneous move to copper and .13 and if it doesn't produce a high volume of good wafers, a high yield per wafer, and high binsplits on those wafers, just about from day one, Intel has nowhere to go and a gigantic bill to pay.

It took Intel about 9 months from sampling to moderate volume on a simple shrink from Aluminum .25 to Aluminum .18.

I remember a number of your "wait and sees" as you hinted at inside knowledge of imminent floods of .18 processors that would arrive in early 1999. They were still barely present in the market at the end of the year.

AMD is implementing a new stock buyback program and announcing record employee bonuses. Intel is canceling raises and laying off "temporary" staff. That isn't just the handwriting on the wall, it's more of a neon sign telling you what each company knows it is facing for the next year.
