From what I have read, I understand that it would be a superfast rocket which delivers a small nuclear warhead, which if it explodes close enough would destroy, or at least knock it off of target. They are working on laser systems but lasers currently cannot travel that distance through the atmosphere without diffusing. Space based lasers would be vulnerable to preemptive attacks. While it isn't working yet, it might work against basic missiles; but not one with a sophisticated defense. In addition, I assume if they can make planes invisible to radars, why not rockets.
