Korean Government Delays Awarding 3rd New Mobile Phone License 2/22/01 10:19 PM Source:Bloomberg News Seoul, Feb. 23 (Bloomberg) -- The South Korean government said it will delay awarding a third new mobile phone license sought after by a group led by Hanaro Telecom Inc. to allow more time for a stronger bid. The Ministry of Information and Communication will indefinitely extend the deadline for the application for a license to offer high-speed Internet access mobile phone service. ''Due to an increase in concerns about the potential of the IMT-2000 business and the cautious attitude of domestic and foreign companies regarding the new investment, we feel that it will take more time to form a consortium,'' the ministry said. Hanaro lost out in December for a license, receiving 56.4 points out of a possible 100 on the government's evaluation scale, while three other proposals received more than 80 points. investor.cnet.com Ö¿Ö
