<How can you short the same gold several times?> CBs lease the gold out to bullion banks, the bullion banks "sell" the borrowed gold to dealers , the dealers sell short to manipulate the price of gold down So the actual figure short could be multiplied many times over by the time it is finally to the market Its like a reverse ponzi scheme, kind of the reverse of one of those letters you would receive in the mail where it says send $5 to everyone on the list and pass it on. Except in this case they have sold gold to everyone on the list and passed it on. M.
