the money supply expansion hasn't had the usual effect - and the stock market has turned down again. likewise, post X-mas mark-down sales and a final 'let's re-live the good-times-one-more-time' spending spree boosted by mortgage refis seems to have run its course more or less.

left is the hangover. thus, 'misleading indicators'.
