You may wish to wait for an ME expert's answer, but as I understand it, MS-DOS MODE has been compromised somewhat, but MS-DOS Windows are still supported.

Or maybe it's MS-DOS Command Mode that disappeared?

I too, use WordPerfect 4.2, as well as Word97.

I expect ME users will post a more complete explanation.
