Let me see if I can make this clearer. We are short teachers; we are not short tech people.

EDIT. I say tech people because Seattle does not have a lot of companies that need chip designers.


Supply and demand does not just work on a local level esp. for higher paying jobs. If the supply of chip designers in the Seattle area exceeds the demand then instead of the price paid to chip designers greatly going down, the chip designers will go to other areas where they are more in demand and can get higher salaries. If the supply of teachers is far below demand the price (teacher wages) will probably go up but the teacher salaries are a political issue which makes the process less responsive to supply and demand.
