Thomas Aquinas felt that sentience began with quickening. He would have agreed with our modern standards.

Our modern legal standards allow for abortion at any point in a pregnancy including after "quickening".

Since it is not a matter that affects me directly, I'd be opposed to legislation that imposes MY standards on someone else, though. The current standard is a compromise, like allowing bug parts in strawberry jam.

I can't see it as a compromise. The current situation is one where the pro-choice side's position is accepted by the law (or by judicial interpretations of the law). A compromise would be something in between the two sides position by definition. I've all ready addressed the idea of "imposing my standards on someone else" before. From the perspective of each side the other side is or seeks to impose their standard on someone else.
