3:30PM Dow -141, Nasdaq -28, S&P 17.77: The markets are continuing to rally on word that John Ryding at Bear Stearns puts the chances for a Fed rate cut next week at 60%. A Fed cut is what the market is looking for, and the mere prospect of such next week is attracting buy interest late in the day. Breadth on both the Big Board and the Nasdaq, while still weak, has improved substantially since talk of a near term rate cut surfaced. The Nasdaq continues to trade over 2200 with the Dow over 10,350. The question at these levels is whether the indices will follow through into the final half hour.
