ild - Like the Rap, Jim Grants site is good reading, but hard to make money with the info. If you read his book "The Trouble with Prosperity" You'll know what I mean.
He covers many economic details and he is uncannily right on. But way ahead of us and the market. He did tell me about Annaly Mort (NLY), which I have made good money - a few times. (Currently not invested) I rather of seen more stock picking ideas and in the US.
Mid year and year end, he gives his picks on Wall Street Week. It is worth getting the transcripts on those shows. In a roaring bull market, he can recommend some shorts and end up being profitable, and vice versa in a bear. This is great since you can invest in stocks that are not correlated with the market. But, his newsletter talks more on economics and stocks you may buy 6-12 months out.
For example, Bill has a free look on one of Jim Grants articles in tonights rap. Bill says it is the best in 15 yrs. I read it last week. It IS excellent. It gives you very specifically how much hedonistic pricing inflates the numbers. OK, how do I make money with that?
I rather spend $29 ($59 non print subscribers) getting the Wall Street Journal / Barrons on-line. Also, Jim writes in the London Times once in awhile. You can get in on-line.
Now if we can get Mike Burke to start a newsletter, I would surely invest. He has given good stock recommendations and saved my butt from making VERY costly mistakes. Oh, what a loss... and it was even free! |
