FWIW, Siemens' timetable for their new GPRS chipset is that handset manufacturers can begin production in Q4. Nokia states it will be shipping in volume in Q4. So it looks at first blush like Nokia is at least a quarter ahead, and the Siemens offering won't make it into handsets by Christmas.

Here's a snip from the Siemens website:

Cannes, France – February 20, 2001 – Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE:IFX) today announced a highly integrated system development platform, including the necessary chipset and system software (firmware), for GSM/GPRS products with Bluetooth connectivity. Together with its subsidiaries Danish Wireless Design (DWD) and Comneon, Infineon offers the System Platform 2001, a complete design platform for dual band and triple band GSM cell phones with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and Bluetooth functionality. The System Platform 2001 provides manufacturers of cell phones with a complete system solution for the fast and reliable development of next generation GSM phones for faster time-to-market. [snip]

Infineon’s customers can start production of their phones using the System Platform 2001 in the fourth quarter of 2001.
