Yep. I see that Metricom today formally told its contractor to stop work on their 128k wireless Internet buildout. So that story is over. I read they have like 12,000 customers total, spread over like 6 metropolitan areas. That's way less than one customer per poletop transceiver.

I had the service for 2 months, but $80/month just to surf the web from my local espresso bar simply wasn't worth it. Geez, that's 25 lattes.

If wireless internet isn't even a viable business model for notebooks, I just can't see how anybody thinks phones are going to make it.
