Poverty***Low Wages****Shoe Making in Third World Countries****

Interesrting that Business Week has an article about this topic in the issue that has Hedge Funds on the Cover.

I believe that it is on page 94, where they show that NEW BALANCE has a shoe making operation in ME using American workers earning $14.00 per hour and using the most modern computerized equipment are more efficient than Oriental workers earning less than 1/10 that amount in a NIKE assembly and subcontractor facility in China.

A great deal has been written about this matter, and my readings indicate that the way out of poverty for third world countries is not by giving them menial useless industries, but rather by helping these countries develop infrastructure, that is honest, reliable ( graft free) and works for the betterment of its citizens. For the most part we have this in this country and we don't even notice it or recognize the importance of it.

Brian those were some great links you posted in previous messages about this topic.

I feel that these topics are very acceptable on this thread because it helps us identify the thinking behind the personalities of the posters on this thread.

Every possible outcome for AMAT has been examined Monday through Friday and we need some mental diversions to carry us through the week-end.
