The Verve: What you are missing is that 1x and 1xEV may be used in current spectrum alongside (as an overlay to) GSM and/or in new spectrum. Either will do to run rings around GPRS. So if as you say, new sprectrum is available in Europe only for UMTS and that can not be changed, then where GPRS is being installed now, in current spectrum, is where 1x and 1xEV can beat it hands down for data transmission.
