The Verve: Both Ben and Eric L have been helpful in clearing away some of the fog for me. The DoCoMo CDMA is both unique to Japan and based on a 1999 CDMA standard. The Isle of Man test is also based on the WCDMA 1999 standard, as is the Monaco test.

And we have just learned that as Dr J has been saying the final standards agreement has yet to be reached for the next version (beyond that of 1999) for WCDMA, so at this point even the Q is using the 1999 WCDMA standard as the basis for the Q's WCDMA chipset due this spring.

WCDMA is in flux.

Best.

PS Having gone through the Holy Wars, and having seen the depth of animosity to Qualcomm which seems pervasive in Europe, I am highly skeptical of any use of any product associated with Qualcomm prior to UMTS. (Note: The Europeans seem so allergic to CDMA that they refuse to use those initials and hide behind another set of letters). But the rest of the world and the GSM operators there is another story IMO. I look for any use of 1x and 1xEV overlays to GSM outside Europe, not in Europe - at least not in Western Europe.
