I thought if this were going to be my only trip to china (one never knows) it might be more interesting to see Shanghai given the colonial history and Shenzhen given the developement zone... both being more what a westernized china might have been and what it will be as the country transitions into a first world dominent economic force...I use westernized loosely, and I mean, westernized in the sense of business and information exchange.. not culture per se.

or... go through the door that makes the most sense if you only get one chance to go through.... it would take many trips to see "China"... so why not try to see a big part of what "China" is perhaps going to be.
