One other interesting point, during the alleged horrific Spanish inquisition (which was truly misguided ignorance of a child queen) only a few dozen may have died and in fact most criminals of the day would declare they were heretics as the Spanish treated these prisoners well as salvaging the soul was the goal and they even provided legal representation. But the documentation of the Spanish Inquisition is very extensive and it reveals very few were killed.
