Tony - RE: "I'm glad you see the beauty of Tualatin. It makes for a double wall barrier, with Foster, against any glimmer of hope for AMD in big OEM's servers. That's big OEM' servers, but small or large servers, either one. ... What does AMD have to hold a candle to 2.0 GHz DP Foster with SMT technology in July?"

Who says AMD has to go for the home run with the upcoming 760MP platform? Based on AMD's past, they will probably look for niches where a dual-Athlon system will be a better fit than a dual-Intel system. Since this IS AMD, we know they will try to undercut Intel prices as much as they can which will allow a dual-AMD system to compete on price with a dual-Intel system. As far as performance, its still up in the air because no one outside of the "lab" has seen 760MP benchmarks. Of course, reliability is also a concern, especially since the 760MP has been delayed soooo much. I don't know if AMD will try to compete with Foster because of price and maybe performance now (confirmation of SMT).

I have no expectation for AMD to enter the server world like they did with the Athlon in the high-end PC market. In fact, I think you are right that AMD servers won't amount to much this year. It may turn out that AMD can't compete with Intel at any level, but I just think it is too early to shut the door on them this quickly.
