Jim P, Great start at a watch list, however if you are going to track techs I suggest we break them into sub-sectors since the tech category is so much larger than O&G.

I personally break apart the following in tech:

1) Semis
2) Networking equipment
3) Opticals (subset of networking equip, but very important sub-sector)
4) Software
5) Telecom infrastructure (baby bells, T, WCOM, Global Crossing)
6) Cell phone makers or related (NOK, QCOM, MOT)
7) Financial services (NITE, EGRP, AMTD)
8) Internet - (no B2B or B2C's), the Yahoo's, INKT, AOL, could also include internet security co's here.
9) Internet B2C (worth following? probably not)
10) Internet B2B (worth following? maybe ARBA at some price)
11) Computer makers, processors (really 2 very different sectors but they'll trade somewhat in tandem)

There are plenty of others, but the first 8 covers a lot of territory and those are my main areas of interest.

I'd say if we are going to truely follow techs here as a group then the first step is too agree upon subsectors and watch lists within each sector. Maybe 10-20 stocks for each sector.

I found that I was far more successful in the O&G sector once I broke it down into 9 subsectors and created simple watch lists using Yahoo.

I like doing the watch lists on yahoo since they're updated in real time (relatively speaking) and it's easy to for everyone to view.

For example this is my Internet B2B list - created mostly for short canidates, but eventually there may be 1 or 2 good long plays. Also wanted to see if the sector followed the same path as the B2C plays.

In the O&G area I break it into

1) Majors
2) Integrated/Large OS companies
3) Tube makers
4) Fab and seismic (both have been late cycle)
5) Small cap E&P's
6) Large cap E&P's (too many E&P's to have just one category)
7) Refiners
8) Land drillers
9) All other drillers

I'm not at the right computer right now, but I can share my watch lists in tech once we agree upon sectors.

PS. Exerdog -- yes I meant to say rate-cut, but I would like to see what a intermeeting hike would do to techs just out of morbid curiousity.
