Start a paper....write down every name, PLACE, and dates if you can remember....especially names and PLACES....if you can get the place, you can usually find more....
I didn't know enough (when I was 17) to ask my Grandad WHERE in GERMANY his Grandfather was from....little town I mean. It's really hard to do a megaphone trick when calling Germany, or any other place, and say......whhhhhhheeeeeeeerrrrrreeeee are you, ye' ole family?
Years later, we eventually found the old German family Bible....and there is the little town....BUT still a bit of a puzzle.....Since most often the women were the keepers of the flame....was the little town mentioned "hers" or "his"..... I have contact with folks , with the very same odd spelling of the name, today in that little 4,000 people town, who didn't know we even existed. It might be hers too, but at least I believe it is his. |
