To this date, I still hold the view that Amazon could have been profitable. Less agressive expansion in distribution centers, less advertising, no $3,000 gas BBQ and garden tools, better management....

In fact, I think Amazon still has a good chance of turning a profit after declaring bankruptcy, which would free them from their leases and debt obligations...

The above cracks me up. My entire point from square one was Amazon was poorly managed, was making huge mistakes in marketing, product mix and distribution center build out. So you are saying excluding those small error, they would have turned a profit. Agreed although nothing huge in my opinion. It is too late for that now. Bankruptcy is required to terminate the leases, management will likely be replaced and Amazon will peddle books, music and video with about 3% net margins.
