I don't think that a Win32 based gcc will help, as it will still produce elf binaries. The problem I'm having is that the x86 simulator requires .omf objects, which are Microsoft compiler specific.

There seems to be a couple of utilities available to assist in converting elf->a.out (elf2aout) and then a.out->omf (emxomf.exe), but I have not had much luck getting these to work well enough to link the kernel with Microsoft linkers.
