Don't forget that Intel still has to finish reworking everything for DDR. AMD got a 1 year pass while Intel chased Rambus shaped snipe.

Between wasting 2 years on Merced/Itanium/McKinly and 2 years chasing Rambus, Intel gave AMD an incredible amount of time to use their once limited resources to develop competing chips.

At this point it's still a question which company's 64 bit CPU will be first to market in volume and which will be first with DDR generation servers. Intel will probably get there first, buy by a month and a half instead of a year and a half.

Given the relative positions of the two companies 2 years ago, that's a huge victory for AMD.

For the next lap, AMD starts out 6 weeks behind instead of 18 months behind.
