Intel to buy DSP maker VxTel for $550 million
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb 26 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news), the world's largest chip maker, said on Monday it would buy semiconductor company VxTel Inc. for about $550 million in cash.

Fremont, Calif.-based VxTel makes digital signal processors that enable communications companies to send voice and data via packet-based networks.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and certain closing conditions, Intel said.

Intel stock was up 5/16 to $30-1/4 in pre-open trade. It has ranged from $28-1/2 to $75-13/16 in the past year on Nasdaq.
