Not only did Bush not lie about the state of the economy but he did not demogogue it either. He could have said, as Clinton did when he ran vs. Bush Sr., that the balance of payments has never been worse, that the gap between the rich and poor has grown over the past eight years, that the national debt had grown, and on and on.
