V Chip Canadian Patent Issued 2/26/01 TRI VISION INTERNATIONAL LTD ("TVL-T;TVSNF-L") - V-gis(TM) V-Chip Canadian Patent Issued Issue of Canadian Patent Strengthens Tri-Vision's Position As V-Chip Technology Leader World-Wide
Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee is pleased to announce that Canadian Patent # 2,179,747 has been issued protecting its unique, flexible V-gis(TM) v-chip technology in Canada.
The #2,179,747 patent relates to methods and apparatus for selectively blocking video signals. In particular, the #2,179,747 patent relates to what is commonly referred to as "V-chip" technology.
This patent is the second patent to be issued following the October 1998 issue of the U.S. Patent and it is valid until June 19, 2016. Tri-Vision retains the exclusive worldwide rights to Tim Collings' v-chip technology for an initial 20-year period effective January 1997.
Tri-Vision President & CEO Najmul Siddiqui says the Patent reinforces the unique nature of the Company's V-gis(TM) v-chip technology. "This goes a long way toward Tri-Vision's goal of delivering the V.gis(TM) technology globally. Canada is the second country after the U.S. to establish a v-chip ratings system under the technical standards described in document EIA-744-A."
"We believe that the manufacture, use, importation or sale of any television receiver, DVD player or set-top device, such as a cable box, which complies with two or more rating systems set out in the Electronics Industries Alliance standard EIA-744-A to permit a video signal to be blocked will infringe our Canadian patent," Siddiqui added.
For Tri-Vision Director Tim Collings, the Canadian Patent issue marks yet another significant milestone since he began developing v-chip technology following the brutal massacre of 12 female Canadian engineering students back in 1989. "I am very pleased to see the issue of the Canadian Patent as the second patent providing protection for this unique technology," Collings stated.
V-gis(TM) Parental TV Monitors, which allow parents to monitor what TV programming comes into the home, are expected to be on sale in Canada soon, following the completion of Canadian Broadcast ratings system encoding. V-gis(TM) units are also available through the Internet at the website at www.vchipdirect.com.
Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee is a public company founded in 1986. The Company trades on Canada's Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol TVL.
