I do not know about the extent law in that detail. I can only reason through analogy in explanation of why I am not troubled. As far as I know, if I kept a tape, it is not covered under law. As I said, if I were churning out copies for sale, I think it would be a different situation.

By the way, Napster is still running. I downloaded some stuff this morning. I do not know when it will all be over.

But more importantly, there is a certain futility, as Gnutella, Freenet, and their clones do not rely upon central servers, but directly link computers, and are not likely to be capable of regulation. Also, the usenet groups make similar trades all the time, if not as efficiently, and are far more difficult to regulate then entities like Napster. Plus, anyone wanting to keep it up, albeit on a less efficient level, could set up bulletin boards making queries, and send through e- mail or a messenger network.......
