Well, at least we can agree on that. However, I'm afraid this is a bit like Fram oil filters--pay me now or pay me (a whole lot more) later--like in China.

I wonder how much of our disagreement is disagreement about how big the population will get and how much of it is disagreement about the consequences of such a population. To examine this theme I will ask how many people (very rough estimate) do you think we will have in 50 to 150 years (pick whatever time frame you want, even more then 150 if you want)?

As for the US having a population problem like China that is very unlikely. Our starting population is much lower and our fertility rate is not high and is trending down. Immigration complicates the issue but without immigration we might never reach 350million. If tough solutions are ever needed to control population in the US a clamp down on immigration should be enough. Such a clamp down is not easy and is not something that I really want to see but it is better then forced contraception/sterilization/abortion.
