"Samsung Elec says in strategic tie-up with Intel
SEOUL, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co. , South Korea's largest chip maker, announced on Tuesday a strategic alliance with Intel Corp (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) in the Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chip business.

``Intel will provide needed facility investments for Samsung Electronics to increase its Rambus DRAM production up to 10 million units a month,'' Samsung Electronics said in a statement.

Samsung did not give details on the investment amount by Intel.

Through the tie-up, Samsung Electronics said it will increase its 128 megabit Rambus DRAM chip production to over 10 million units a month starting from March.

It said it would further double monthly production from the second half of this year with a target of securing half of the world Rambus DRAM market.

Samsung said it expects the world Rambus DRAM market to expand to over 600 million units in 2002."
