So here we come--crawling slowly away (but not out of) the animal kingdom. Now we have consciousness of the future; We have fears; We have a limited (but superstitious) knowledge of cause and effect. Now we begin to invent our human Gods.
But what characteristics do we give our human Gods? That is correct! Class, I wish you would all pay attention like Neocon has been doing! That is correct, Neocon! We made our human Gods like ANIMALS--The leader of the pack.
Our human Gods DOMINATE and rule and have DOMINION over their submissive and fearful minions. They PUNISH. They demand SACRIFICE. They have absolute CONTROL. It is the jungle in us. It is still the jungle in many of us who cannot escape from the drive to CONTROL and to have DOMINION.
Over time, many of these Gods have taken their rest, but one in particular remains to lead and guide His savage pack in their DOMINION (it is a God given right) over the earth and all of its creatures. This human (animal) God is (surprise!) one of the most vicious, cruel, dominating, punishing, and controlling in the history of Homo sapiens. You know His name. Some are so afraid of His Pack Leadership that they will not even write His name. They go like this: G-D.

Now why should this particular God be still able to exert His Dominion and "stewardship" (HA!) over the entire earth? Over all the decent and kind "good hearts and gentle people" who only wish to live as human beings--without Dominion over one another, and with only voluntary interactions where mutual benefit, and not CONTROL, is the goal? The answer to that question is easy and transparent--and profoundly disturbing: Because most of us are still animals; Most of us still want dominion and control; Most of us still unconsciously follow the evolutionary mode, inherent in the jungle, of the survival of the fittest. When we don't want CONTROL--we want to be a damn good follower, and a favored one...
We fashioned our God structure upon our animal experiences. We fashion our modern social structure upon our human God-Animal relationship--a hierarchy of CONTROL and DOMINANCE leading to our Ruler. Remember the Divine Right of Kings?
It doesn't matter whether or not you consciously follow a God or not. It doesn't have to be conscious. If you want CONTROL and DOMINION over me--you are following your ANIMAL instincts. Now I had a question for you:

What matters is whether you live like an animal, and whether you treat others like animals (such as when you kick over their camp and assasinate their words while they are absent); Whether you arrogate to yourself, "stewardship" and Dominion, and whether your primary social effort is CONTROL and PUNISHMENT.
Were you doing God's work while I was away, or was it merely Your work? Do you realize it doesn't matter? They are the same thing if you are still an ANIMAL.
