I wonder what the outgrowth of this will be?

I just had the beginnings of an idea. Perhaps we could turn the birth certificate into a parenting contract.

Whether of not couples have relationships or non-relationships inside a marriage or outside is really of minor interest to society. It only becomes relevant when the couple produces children. Right now, the birth certificate contains the mother's name. It may or may not contain the father's name. Perhaps we could develop some standard forms where the parents could specify their obligations to the child and to each other with regard to the child. It would be sort of like a pre-nup. Couples could use the options in the form to think through and document their rights and responsibilities regarding their offspring before conception or before birth. Hmmm.
