No indication in those articles whether mild or harsh recession although since they still predict growth of at least 2 1/2% globally I presume that would be mild.

JDN, you just read the same articles that I did and said what you did above.

Within those articles, on February 26, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter's Chief Worldwide Economist, Stephen Roach says - EMPHASIS ADDED BY ME ... "Fully 30% of the world -- the United States and Japan -- already is in recession. Our view on the US remains unaltered. The real-time data continue to point to an unrelenting carnage on the earnings front that has triggered sharp cutbacks in IT-led capital spending and employment. The unrelenting plunge of consumer confidence only confirms the impacts of such cost-cutting initiatives on the broader public. It’s hard to dismiss this as just a temporary inventory correction that will quickly give way to everyone’s favorite cyclical scenario -- the V-shaped recovery."

You ... "presume the recession will be mild."

I say that MSDW is warning us that this could get rough ... a lot rougher than it has been so far.

We will just have to see what happen.
