I am not sure if this is possible technologically, or if it would only be possible on new drives (obsoleting older ones).

They need to come up with a low-cost lower-capacity disk, that could at least compete with "old" prices of floppy disks. Say, under $1.

Or, they can get the price of the 100M disks down to that price.

If they can do that, then they have some chance of completely replacing the floppy drive. But it would still be a heck of a battle.

A less-desirable alternative would be to build a dual Zip/floppy drive. I don't think it would be possible to get the Zip to accept a floppy in the Zip slot.
