The parallels were not lost on me as I typed that paragraph. -g-

What is different now? Time will tell, but I think that our underlying economy seems to be more stable than the economy of the 1920's. One thing that concerns me is the parallel between the changes caused by the Internet in this generation and the changes caused by the Industrial Revolution in that generation. A lot of people now don't really DO anything that is essential - which was also the case in the 1920's.

On the other hand, our underclass is already on the dole, and that means that the formerly gainfully employed won't have to compete with them for jobs, if there are jobs.

Oh, I forgot to mention the parallel of massive consumer debt.
