What is up with this??? Is this true? I don't understand, and this is the first time I've heard of this. Am I really that out of it?

From the telecoms-mag link you posted, in the paragraph under item #10, 56K modems:

Second, x2 modems are limited by FCC regulations to 53 kbps-which is mentioned in the fine print of ads-while K56flex versions have no such limitation.

Could anyone enlighten me on this?
