Schrempp is a good crash pilot, he already managed to first initiate the Fokker acquisition and to terminate it later, an error on the billion USD scale. Chrysler might be the next order of magnitude he manages to reach. So, yes, the C part might be closed ultimately but Daimler (read: Mercedes) will survive.
