(BusinessWire, 02/27/2001 10:10)

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2001--

3Com Secures 74 Per Cent of the Fast-Growing LAN Telephony Market

Continuing Its Leadership for the Second Consecutive Year

Phoenix, Arizona-based Synergy Research Group's Worldwide Voice over IP (VoIP) report for calendar year 2000 cites 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ:COMS) once again the leader in the LAN Telephony market with 74 per cent market share in LAN telephony system shipments for its VoIP Access and Infrastructure Program. Synergy's report cites 3Com shipping 4,946 systems and 109,925 phones for calendar year 2000. The nearest competitor is Cisco with only 879 system shipments.

"Synergy's report shows 3Com's continued leadership in the worldwide LAN telephony market and confirms the increase in IP telephony customer adoption resulting from our deployment of feature-rich, easy-to-deploy business telephone systems," said Ed Wadbrook, director, Voice Solutions Group, 3Com. "3Com's innovative networked telephony solutions are designed to help businesses manage their operations more efficiently, improve customer relationships and increase return on telephony investments."

"The VoIP market is growing faster than expected and presents a tremendous business opportunity for those vendors providing global solutions. The market is expected to grow from $213 million during 2000 to $3.9 billion in revenue by 2005," said Jeremy Duke, founder and principal analyst, Synergy Research Group. "For the second year, 3Com has secured significant market share by giving businesses a cost-effective solution that offers more features and functions than traditional PBX systems."
