What happened in CA is that the rate the utilities could charge for electricity was capped while the rate they had to pay was not. Remove the cap and reduce red tape and legal delay associated with creating new generation capacity and the situation will be resolved.

You are naive , more temporary fixes ?
Which "new generation" capacity
are you talking about ?
Nuclear ? Wind ? Solar?
There are no more rivers to damn .

Agriculture is maxxed out &
water is maxxed out .
You are going to build enough
de-salination plants to make a difference?
(not a bad idea , I'll be glad to
send you construction costs & the
$100bil/yr tax bills for running them )

Topsoil loss is critical , toxic salt
build-ups are reaching critical levels .
And the situation quietely goes
from bad to worse
with no solution in sight.

So the stock market has done poorly for the better part of a year and we might be entering a cyclical recession. Do you take this as a sign that human economic growth has stopped?

I think you are in for a rude awakening,
it is more than just cyclical ...the boom
has gone bust . Effeciency in manufacturing
has peaked , demand will be
falling off everywhere. Technology cannot
flourish if the basic manufacturing and
consumer markets they serve are dead .

Biotechnology focusses on extending life
which is marvelous , but also impacts
that zero-growth model , more people living
longer every day.

Now go on and tell me just how much viable
sustainable living space there is
and there are no problems with
overpopulation , or dwindling resources...

PS: I am so glad to know that you were one of the first
40 years ago to champion the idea of recylcing.
I am sure in the 1960's you were right there
on the forefront of the movement <gg>
