Hard to imagine that a few hundred traders who show up in a room only about 1/3 are short or even private traders can command even a modicum of the power But of course I don't think the world is shorting as much as you think. In my trading experience there are daytraders who just don't short. Yesterday for example I went long 2 stocks and the momentum to downside was fierce and although I wanted to hold I couldn't. Today I would have liked to go long but the momentum I think of the market, the lack of conviction was apparent. Traders kept asking at 9:35 "Do we buy now and I kept saying No they opened well but look they are all pulling back and then we short by 9:50 or even as late as 10:00."

and I saw 1600 big blocks dumping CSCO its those big institutional SELLING these tech companies and private people that are causing the market to go down. We just short because the momentum is already negative. Its those daily downgrades like I think when GS says that he doesn't suggest we buy technology for a while, it makes an enormous difference. I sure won't be the first lemming to go long in such a situation. Then every morning 5 new techs are cut or NKE and other have shortfalls. Logic says its the companies and the analysts that are the cause.
