Re: I didn't see this posted in the American news media (yet):

It wasn't very informed of him to ask the question. There are indications that the guys at top have trained their intermediaries to give them the rosy version of the news. Barrett, Ottelini, and Burner really seem to believe that P4's are close to dominating sales in their markets when it appears more likely that they are dominating warehouse racks and the shelves (as opposed to the lines at the registers) of retail stores.

In most large corporations, it's very hard for anyone to avoid presenting things as being a little bit better than they really are when reporting to their boss. At Intel, it looks like that news is getting "improved" slightly by each of a half dozen layers of management before it gets to the top guys.

"The 1.13GHZ can't shouldn't be shipped for months" seems to have been translated into "the 1.13GHZ will be ready next week". "P4 sales are barely 50% of what we expected" seems to have gone to "approaching 60%", then 70%, then 80%, then 90%, then been reported as "just about on target!"

It happens everywhere, it's human nature.

Regards,

Dan

PS - I suspect Ruiz and Sanders got some happy news about new chips a few months ago, that was more what they wanted to hear than where things really stood in terms of being ready to ship (5 new processors by when?). It's not just Intel that has this problem.
