And where do you suppose the custom icons are stored locally when they do work correctly

I'll try later on to create a branded icon and trace it.

Browsing through the Favorites folder I see that you can change icons from a limited list. File name for all says C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\url.dll

I hope we are talking about the same "Favorites" :).I'm wondering what list you are referring to and how you arrived there.

C:\Windows\Favorites stores all your Internet Shortcuts aka Favorites and all icons can be changed.
