Eric L. - Why so irate with Dr. J's comments? For anyone waiting and waiting for the first implementation of CDMA it really did take a long time to get the bugs out of the system. There were endless software patches from Motorola on systems in LA, Seattle and Chicago. Why is it off base to think that this kind of tweaking wouldn't have to occur with W-CDMA systems? If you are mad though that he didn't have a concrete announcement of a company clearly interested in using 1x-evdo on current spectrum, then I can agree. However, it could still be forthcoming and maybe he doesn't have a strong enough commitment yet to make an announcement but some could still be in the wings - waiting for 1xevd0 or 1xevdv approval into IMT-2000.
